In this book, veteran journalist Saeed Naqvi explores the complex and often troubled position of Muslims in post-independence India. Drawing on personal experiences, interviews, and decades of reporting, he traces how India’s largest minority community gradually came to be seen as “the other” in the national imagination.
Naqvi argues that the marginalization of Muslims undermines India’s secular ethos and that genuine inclusivity is essential for the health of the republic. His work is both a critique of exclusionary politics and a plea for pluralism.
